Matt Selby was born January 15, 1960, in Mooreland, Oklahoma, a small town in the western part of that state. His parents were educators and his father a superintendent of schools for thirty years. Matt graduated from Russell High School in 1978, obtained his bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma State University in 1983, and earned his law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1986. He was married to Patty Davidson in 1984 and their first child, Jessica, was born in December, 1985.  The small family moved to Hollister in January of 1986 and Patty began performing as a ventriloquist in Branson. Matt took the Bar exam that summer and received his license to practice law in Missouri that fall. The family moved to Stone County in August of 1986 and has lived here since that time. All five of

his children, Jessica, Angela, David, Benjamin, and Austin attended the Reeds Spring school system throughout their academic careers.

Matt established a law office in Stone County and in 1991 also began working as a part-time assistant prosecutor in Lawrence County at Mt. Vernon. That job became full-time in 1995.  In 1998 Matt was elected as the first full-time prosecuting attorney in the history of Stone County and took office on January 1, 1999. He has worked full-time, if not overtime, in that position ever since. He will begin his fifth term on January 1, 2015.
